Understanding what a fraction is.
I feel you must understand what a fraction is before you use operations with them. Algorithms fall apart if they are not remembered correctly. KCF? The ironing board Method? I have seen it all.
I hope to fill this page with ideas on how to help learners conceptualise fractions. What is best practice? I can't answer that, but I will use what I seen/done/read to help me. First stop... representing as pictures!
Equivalent Fractions Linking to Multiplication
Using the area model to explore equivalent fractions and how the same representation can be used to conceptualise the multiplication of fractions.
I am currently planning some tasks/learning opportunities on this. I with post some material soon.
